I have a 91 4runner. I did a rear leaf conversion with trail-gears 4'' springs. My question is where can I get extended e-brake cables? I have looked but cannot find what I need. Any help would be Great! Thanks

I have no idea. My ebrake cable was still long enough before the system broke.

 

with my 3" spring/shackle combo, I have plenty of slack in the e-brake cable. One of the first things I checked along with the brake lines. Photo of what your talking about?

??? you talking about the line going from the front to the back or the back to each of the bell cranks?

 

Might want to look at a long bed truck, might be able to fit the bill.

 

IM talking about the cables going from about mid truck to each drum. Im trying to put a pic on here but i dont have a photobucket account and my image is too large to attach.

 

I had thought of fabbing up a couple extensions for the ebrake actuater arms behind the drums but never got around to it before ebrake broke someplace else.

I was also thinking about a long bed but i dont want to go buy something and have it not work. That is why i was seeing if anybody else had any solutions. As for making a different actuator arm, i would rather have a longer cable so to keep everything close to stock. (if that makes sense)

 

owww my forehead, cannot tell anything from that photo whatsoever. Get yourself a photobucket account. lol but your short at the bellcrank seems like it. No reasone why you should be short there unless you put a wider rear axle on, like if someone was gonna go from say an 85 axle to an 87 axle. in which would be about 1.5" too short on each side.

P.S. They are not just to raise the ebrake cable above springs but can be used to lengthen the cable to the crank as well. But no reason why just going taller would cause that. At least not 4" anyway. You sure the cable(s) are routed properly?

 

Im pretty sure they are. What exactly is the bell crank? I have never heard of that before. Im working on a photobuket account right now. should have some better pics in a few minutes. I have a 91 4runner. I just went and looked some more and took some pics. the driver's side will fit at ride height. the passenger side is only about an inch short. Im just worried that when i flex it out that it will break something.

 

I have to look but what your describing is different then the 1st gens with 1 single cable that goes from the adjuster that is right by the torsion bar adjuster to the centerish of the rear axle via a pivot point, from that pivot point it seprates into two cables and goes to the brakes. The bell crank is what the cables attach to in order to actuate the drums.

 

There is a single cable that comes from the handle in the cab that goes back to this lever. from that lever there are two cables (one for each side)

This is the passenger side. It looks like it will fit but when trying to bolt it up it is about half an inch to an inch short.

Thats kinda what i was thinking. Do you know if the 2nd gen ext cab longbed pickups would have the same setup that the 2nd gen 4runners have?

 

Okay, here's a dumb question, was your 4runner ever at any point in time a 2wd?

I ask only because that looks a lot like the parking brake cable setup (1 front cable, 2 rear cables) for my 2wd pickup, except the lever has a different shape and the pivot looks like it's in a slightly different location. If it's the one from your avatar pic with the SAS then it's possible when the rear axle was swapped out for a 4wd one and used they 2wd parking brake cables because at that point in time they fit. If so, then you might be able to get away with the 2wd cables for the 1-ton/longbed which are longer.

 

Nope it was always 4wd. But it had a coil 4 link in the rear (all stock) which i switched over to leaf springs.
