I have a 86 pickup with a 22R with 81000 miles on it. It was sitting up for about 2 yrs and I am getting it back to life. I have replaced the plugs, plug wires, all carb diaphrams, fuel filter, fuel pump, gas cap. I have also removed all egr and pair valve stuff. I capped everything off. The engine idles great and runs good....EXCEPT it will run for about a mile or two and acts like its running out of gas. It will not rev but it will idle. Let it idle for a min and its good for another mile or two. Its almost like a vapor lock but Im not sure. I find it hard to believe that its a clogged jet in the carb bc it runs perfect for that couple of miles. Any suggestions? Thank

 

you low on fuel, is it old fuel? Check to make sure you didn't mix up the two fuel lines, supply and return.

Also could be vacuum leak caused by an opening vacuum switching valve that is based on temp and isn't either caped or routed properly.

 

It has over a half a tank of fuel, fresh fuel too. Also it was doing this before I started taking the vaccum stuff off. Talking to some local friends, we are thinkin that the tank needs a cleaning/draining. Possibly there is some trash blocking the pickup tubes.
