so the headliner in my 89' 4runner is falling off, not all over, just right between the front seat and back seats, a friend of mine tried to fix it last week with some spray glue ( I think...lol) and it is coming off again!
so, what's the best way/product to us to get that liner to stay up there for good?!

i tried the 3m spray glue also and it didnt work but i think only because it didnt have pressure on it and ample time to dry.

However I think it would have worked if i had pulled the top off and flipped it over, sprayed it and had something on top of it until it dried.

Anyhow it kept bugging me...it blocked my blindspot and dropped spongey particles all over my back seat and passengers. I just decided to cut out the sagging portion. When i take the hardtop off to install the my softtop i am going to remove the rest of it and just spray it down with some spray bedliner.

 

I was also kinda thinking that it'd be easier to fix with the top removed, might go that route now that the weather is nicer.
Other than falling off, the liner is like showroom condition so I would prefer fixing it rather than removing it but if I can't fix it, it's gonna come down...lol

 

there are different grades of the 3m stuff. also helps if you spray it on both sides and let it get tacky before you stick them together. yes, it will need some time to cure before 80mph down the hwy with the windows down, lol.

 

Any kind of contact cement will work. (3M is good)You have to spray both sides and wait for it to "tack up" then when you put them together it will be permanent. If you have any friends that do laminate countertops they could show you the best techniques YOU ONLY GET ONE SHOT. If you want it to be able to come apart later the you only need to do one side. To do it the easiest start on the front and work your way backwards a little at a time pulling it a little as you go to stretch out any wrinkles so it doesn't look like someones old gramma. If you want to try a test try putting a coating of cement on an old shirt and on a piece of wood, wait for them to dry and put together. This will give you an idea how much cement to use. Also a small roller helps with this, like a small paint roller or wallpaper roller to smooth it out. Once you get wrinkles they don't come out. If the headliner is out of the car just clip the sides with clothespins while it sets. It should be an almost instant bond once the two surfaces touch. Do it where there is plenty of air circulation, contact adhesive have some pretty nasty chemicles in them. Good luck

 

I don't know what you drive BUT with that statement, I'm pretty sure it's NOT a 1st gen 4runner...
