I was wondering do the 96-98 4Runners come prewired for the stock Hella foglights? Because mine didn't come with foglights and might be purchasing the foglights from Perrformance Product. Thanks

 

The 1996-1998 4Runners do not come prewired for the foglights. However, the kit includes the wiring harness, connectors, and instructions, so installation is pretty staightforward.

If you do order the foglights, I would recommend getting some H3 bulbs that have a gold or yellow tinge. I've found they work much better at cutting through fog and illuminating wet or icy roads.

i installed some Hella Optilux 1000's right on my grille guard, but will probably spring for the factory-style or actual oem ones later on.

 

Vato, have you decided where to mount your fogs? I've been floundering wether to get the PP valence and fogs or attempt to cut and mount through the existing valence. In the mean time I've put some Hella free form fogs and mounted them on the bottom of the bump stops just behind the valance. They sit pretty flush under the valence without having made any permanent changes but it sure dont look very clean or "ome".

The fogs In the pic look like the Toyota aftermarket factory fogs. My dealer and a couple others have told me that they have been discontinued and are no longer availible. I'm sure you can jimmy rig somthing to mount lights there or find those OME lights on Ebay or in a yard. If you finalize somthing please post some pics Im in a similar dilema. Thanks

 

when i went to ask my trusted car guy's advice on rigging up my fogs (after noticing the lack of prewiring!), he'd told me many people would cut through some of the plastic in the front to install foglights. i didnt like the sound of that, but its an idea.

 

I can't see the picture posted but if they are in the same position as the stock fog lights are then there is an alternative - and a fairly cheap one. I bought a pair of Pilot fogs from Autozone for $19.99, a $3.00 relay, and an OEM Toyota switch to fit the cutouts. I have the PL-1062 shown here:

I mounted them to the plastice valence by drilling a hole and bolting them on. You can actually reach the underside of the valence to secure a nut and bolt. Before mounting a had to Dremel out about 1/4" of plastic from the valence louver to fit them flush. I have had them on for over a year now with no problems at all. Sorry, but I don't have a picture to post. For a total of about $40.00, they work just as good as the expensive, high end lights.

 

The wiring is pretty straight forward its the mounting location thats very limiting on the 96-98. Gadget and Jason Burtman found thier solutions in the PP spoiler. Its pricey but is looks factory.

I'm sure you already know, but installing those OEM fogs is a breeze. I swapped a valance with a guy who had the OEM fogs (my valance didn't have fog locations). Using a sharp box cutter, we went through that plastic like butter.

I suggest looking at one with fogs up close and measure twice, because if you cut too much off of the horizontal slat that the bracket attaches to you're screwed.

Performance Products sells the same Hella Fog light kit complete with brackets that was used by Toyota as a port installed option.

Here is what I ended up doing to mount some hella ff driving and fogs. Cutting the valence was only necessary for the driving lights (upper). I want to upgrade to the 99'+ bumper & valance but its too rich for my mod account now.

Indeed. If the kit runs 150$ for the DIO or 75$ for a 500 setup, which would you (everyone and/or anyone) go with?

 

I just bought 2 pairs of rectangular driving lights. Thinking about using one pair to assist my regular headlights and one pair to assist high beams. What did you use to cut the valence? Is the mounting pretty secure in the sense that, does it shake/vibrate when driving?
