Help ! Cant pass Smog ! Malfunctioning Speed sensor

1996 toyota tacoma 2wd single cab 2rz motor ( ECM is 2rz-fe) , its supposed to be 5spd instead the guy who had it befor me found a 4spd gearbox and swaped it ? My originall speed sensor should have a electric unit on it but the one on my truck does not , I absolutely cant find the original wire for the sensor so i cant even just throw one in . California wont pass me and i would love to get some input ,

1st . I followed the wire loom from the O2 sensors to the reverse solinoid and then up to the intake manifold , no cut wires or straglers ,
2. pulled the ECU out to see if it was swaped ( negative)
Im not positive what trans set up was even used on this , the gear box is marked 12-2 thats it !

Please please help me out is there a diagram to were i can pin my own wire and run it from the ecu plug to the sensor ? please anything
Thank you very much

Barring the hint from your username, I think you may have provided some incorrect information. There is no such thing as a 22R carbureted Tacoma. Moreover, California engine swap laws require donor engines that are newer than the destination model year. Do you perhaps have a 1986 carbureted 2WD Hilux? In this case it is plausible for one to downgrade to a prehistoric L-series 2WD 4-speed transmission.

We could start discussion how the white wire with a red stripe is not a signal wire but rather an ignition ON power wire, but if this truly is a Hilux and not a Tacoma, then the speed sensor is located in the instrument cluster integrated with the speedometer itself. Additionally you have found a fuel injected ECU so this cannot have a 22R engine.

Please clarify the details of your truck!

Regards,
BigMike

Its a 2rz with a original Bell housing and a 4spd gearbox and tail section , The white with a red stripe goes to my O2 sensor ( there are many white with a red stripes ) So can a another harnes plug into the 2rzfe ECU? i cant figure this out still , wire diagrams would be nice yet cant find any .

Awesome! Well glad you figured it out LOL 90% of the time a white wire with a red stripe is an ignition ON power, the exception being a constant hot source.

Hopefully you just found a missing speed sensor pig tail harness?

Would you mind going into an AutoZone, or equivalent, and rent an OBD-II scan tool, and then post up the error codes here please?
