The truck has a manual transmission with a new 3vze long block thats just been installed. The timing is all lined up perfect and it idles good and revs up without a load on it fine. But when actually driving down the road it is slow to accelerate and will barely get to 45mph pretty much has no power. Any ideas?

The truck has new spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap, knock sensor and wire, and ignition control module.

 

It could be alot of different things. Is it a fatory new engine , who built it and what was done? If every thing else is good to go check ignition timing and then fuel pressure( checked under load) while you are driving and having problems. Hows your cat? Do you have a service manual? I just saw you metioned "Advanced timing issuses" what do you mean by that.

 

It's an engine built by OER. It's now had a tps sensor, distributor, cut the cat off, and a computer without fixing the problem. It will idle fine and while sitting parked it will rev up fine. Then when you try to drive it down the road it just doesn't have any power. It won't even get past 45mph.

On a side note, the reason I replaced the old motor is because it had a burnt valve. But it would run to 65 no problem with the burnt valve. Then gradually the truck got slower and when I finally took it to the shop to have the motor pulled, it wouldnt go above 40. Just like the one now.

Any ideas?

advence your timing to 15 degrees and make sure your egr isnt stuck open a little and is hooked up right and not getting vacuum when it shouldnt be, it sounds like you need to advance your timing fiddle with it and see takes like 3 minutes

 

We've played with the timing and it doesnt make any difference. The truck runs good parked and you can rev it up while parked and it does fine. It's only under load. I don't think the egr valve is sticking.

 

Oh it's also not throwing any codes.

 

You did one, now try the EGR. you can just block it off for now to test it, but its good to keep that working on the good ole veezee

 

If the egr is bad wouldn't that make the truck run rough?

 

Check your fuel pressure.

 

last year I got a deal on a chevy van with the same problems! There mechanic said it was the trany IT WAS A OLD CLOGGED FUEL FILTER $4000.00 van for $500.00 but it did take me a week to trace it down :-)

 

My truck did the same thing when I replaced my engine, turns out the timing (even though it was lining up) was 180 degrees off.

 

Nobody mentioned injectors but 99% sure thats what it is. It really throws it off that it idles so good. I didn't think about having them cleaned before putting it back together. Will report back when I know for sure!

 

It was the injectors. I had 3 clogged, i dont know how it ran so good. It is a big difference now. The truck has plenty of power and runs good.

 

Just posting see if any one has a OEM number on the ignition module wiring harness goes in the top of the module I have a 3vze 1991 truck so it seen better days
