High idle and overflowing antifreeze?
I have a 93 pickup, 22re 4wd 5spd. and the day before thanksgiving i pulled out of school to find at the next stop sign it wouldnt idle below 2500 rpms. I got out and it had shot antifreeze out of the overflow reservoir. Not from anywhere else though. I originally thought the idling high was because it may have gotten onto the intake sensor, which happens to be right where it shot out at.
How ever I just replace the thermostat thinking that was it, but it does the same damn thing. Start it up, idles a little high because its cold. then goes down to regular idle, then gradually and consistently raises the rpm on its own till its about 2500 rpm. Then it will go down gradually then up. But I dont think im getting any circulation either because fluid backs up in my reservoir and its cold even after the engine has reached regular tempature. Then it proceeds to spit antifreeze and it starts to heat up.
The idling thing is what gets me though. Its my only vehicle right now so any help asap would be appreciated. If you need more info ask for it because Ill be watching this thread closesly, I have to drive it monday and its saturday.......

i would flush the system nice and good, if that doesn't help, then replace the water pump. does the vehicle want to over heat while its doing this? do you hear the reservoir bubbling too. it sounds like your not getting any circulation. oh yeah before the water pump i would replace the radiator cap (cause its cheaper) the cooling system works on a little bit of pressure... i beileve its to keep the boiling point down not sure though. try those. good luck

I did a little checking on it today, water pump belt is on, the thermostat is a 195 but the one that came out was 185 ( didnt think itd make any difference), the hose on the top of radiator is NOT getting hot, and I still havent run it without thermostat. Another thing, I turned it on today, and turned the heater on, the heater warmed up like usual then went cold all of a sudden. Hope this helps determine the cause. Maybe a blockage? Why would it run half a day then sit at school for 2 or 3 hours then clog though?

Also, it does want to overheat which is why I almost know i have little to no circulation but whats with the high idle too? Itll start gradually ever so slowly increasing idle rpms till it gets to about 2500.

Well I thought of that but it was rebuilt about 25000 miles ago. New headgasket obviously. Plus why would there be zero circulation if it was a headgasket? And why would it idle high?
