Murphyz's 89 4runner 3.4 Swap Build up Thread "Ruby Thunder"

to start off bought this runner on craigslist for a 1000 bucks. 270k on the engine, ran like a ls1 with some serious "lobe"-ing. I took it to yotarobs house and finally got to tearing her down...

rob has the photos so dont shoot me. ill update the first post as more stuff happens.

10-17-10- started teardown:
labeling the vacuum lines from hell ( all need to be replaced)
pulling the intake and radiator, and harness out of the way.

11-6-10 got a 3.4 for under 1000, has 100% engine harness, 90% body harness,ecu from a manual 99 taco

11-7-10 pulled 3.0, started cleaning the bay, swapped parts for pil pickup

Differences in motor mounts and pil pickups
3.0 on left-3.0 closest to camera

As of today: no engine in bay. most of 3.0 parts switched to 3.4

Next step: plug oil dipstick for 3.4, cut exhaust and change, move fuel lines

I am registering it in Oregon and after 20 years- no smog, what can i eliminate from the engine bay and still have it run. egr, etc.

mater from Cars lives in Rusk Tx so i asked for a pic

Thank you yotarob for the help and the resources to make this happen.

From: Bryan Tx,
Murphy! Fix your pics man! Why are they all side by side instead of in a strait line up & down goofball? lol

Here are the pics I have from last weekends progress.

And my destroyed garage!

From: Bryan Tx,
this is murphyz.

can not figure out how to tighten the dipstick tube to the block in its new location. the o ring is loose and the tube feels like it would just leak oil if i were to fill it up.

anyone have a idea how to reinsert the tube and make it snug?

Yeah. No luck. The o ring is smashed so I went and got a new one. Still lose but maybe after a bracket is made to support the tube. It will work.

Looking good man, a 1000 bucks for that is a steal even if it takes just a little bit of work to get her going!
