My crankshaft seal has leaked since i got the truck, but its gotten so bad now its leaking a quart every 500miles which has become an expensive pita not to mention a plauge for whoever's driveway its parked in.

I was going to just, replace the seal....
But then I started doing my homework for a 3VZ.
Its recommended to replace the oil pump which includes the seal,
and if you replace the oil pump, might as well do the timing belt, its about due anyway, and if you replace the belt, might as well do the water pump also, as if it locks up it will snap the belt.
Total cost= about $350, which I dont have right just yet.

Its going to be like a month till I can save up enough $$$.

I have seen for sale products that promise to stop leaks,
some of these products are just a heavy oil, aka motor honey.
I will not risk damage using motor honey.
Some of these products dont look like motor honey, and make the claim that they rejuvenate the seals, make them swell up I suppose.

I dont want to have to rebuilt my motor a year from now, nor do I want to have to replace every seal and o-ring in it.

So what do you guys think I should do.
Deal with the leak for another month or so.
or
Try the snake oil?

 

I wouldnt run sanke oil in it. Hang tight till ya can fix it. Borrrow some cardboard from a Chevy owner.

 

Yea man, that stuff is junk, just wait until you can afford to fix it right.

 

ok, going to keep the old oil pump, and just replace the timing belt and water pump. oil pressure is good, and motor only has 160k on it, so really not much point in replacing it.

 

No oil additive is going to stop a leak from a damaged seal. If the oil has been leaking and contaminating the belt, then for sure replace the timing belt water pump, the cam and crank seals, give it a good coolant flush. If you're goin to jump into it, might as well do it right.
