Ok so last week on my test run (first time actually able to drive it)

my Brake light, battery light, and A/T Fluid light were coming on whenever i let off the gas or at idle. I went to the parts store and had them check my alternator, sure nuf its bad.

Well after the run around about the wrong part being ordered. I finally got the correct one. Got it put in tonight...

Speaking of, Why do the make these trucks nearly unable to get anything done without removing ten other things. We had to remove the lower coolant hose to get the alternators switched out.

Plus side, coolant was dirty but thats partially taken care of now.

Wasnt too hard, just aggravating. Locked up shop and headed back home and No codes were being thrown, i was having a Tran code (2nd VSS) but that didnt come back, maybe the battery not being fully charged had something to do with that...Weird.

Regardless im just glad i didnt have any codes.

Tomorrow morning bright and early im headed down to the exhaust shop to get everything re-done...

My down pipe has a bad leak below the flange where it bolts to the manifold.
My Cat was stolen when i was on my honeymoon.
My exhaust had a few small cracks in it, and otherwise a waste.

So maybe these new parts will help it run better?!?


Could these leaks be robbing me of power? or leading to problems?

 

Being that far down from the engine/cylinder head, it won't hurt anything. But, depending how big the leaks are, you could see a bit of improvement. You might read sometime on exhaust scavenging.

 

exhaust scavenging, ill have to check into that...

its a pretty decent leak, i never really had a chance to hear the motor run before the cat was stolen so its hard to hear things right now, but with it runnin and you stick your hand beside the downpipe, you can feel a good bit of air flowing..

maybe i could fab an air hose on the leak and have something to air my tires up whenever i wanted, or run a few air tools...

I just replaced the alternator on my 86 4Runner and i was able to get the alternator out with out removing anything else, it was very tight, but i got it out. Getting the new one back in place was tight also.
