(84-88 4runner) Radio Bezel Area - what's it supposed to look like?

Hey guys,

So, when I got my 87 4runner 8 years ago, the aftermarket stereo was crammed in and the bezel around the radio/cubby area was in bad shape and cut out in the middle. I fabbed up a crappy plate to cover the area around the stereo and attached some cheap o gauges....and since have ripped it all out.

I now have a bare area underneath the ash tray, with the remnants of the bezel piece (imagine the piece below, less most everything under the ash tray area/lighter...):

I've been looking on ebay (where this image came from) and seen these, plus some brackets, plus some that come with a "cubby" area the size of a radio face. The area seems tall enough for two things the same size as a radio face, suggesting they ALL had the cubby?

the area INSIDE the hole I have has no brackets like the ones I see on Ebay:

Sooooo.....my question is, what is the OEM set up SUPPOSED to look like, and what parts will I need to get to resurrect it? I plan to run a single DIN stereo in there still....nothing fancy.

Any photos of your "stock" set ups (and shots of how the brackets mount, if I need them) would be much appreciated!

thanks guys

Phil

The surround and brackets you have pictured are what it is supposed to be using.

the brackets attach the metal upright supports of the dash, and the surround slips over it.

Thanks Cougar!

And the cubby....does that come with all of them or are there optional switches (like you see switch "placeholders" in the image I linked to above)?

Any idea what screw size hold the brackets in?

Standard dash screws. They are all the same all over the dash. Take one out of your main pad, then either go into a hardware store and find some more, or hit up a local wrecking yard and grab a handful.

I'm doing the same thing. I have a big old double DIN stereo that I'm going to replace with a single DIN stereo and gauges. Can't find any pics online of the stock set up though.
