265/75/16 won't fit under the spare area?

A few months ago, someone scraped my driver side rear tire and rim. Their insurance managed to re-surfaced my rim and got me a new tire. So I asked the shop to replace my stock 265/70/16 spare tire with the 265/75/16 lightly scraped Terra grappler. That way I'll have all 5 tires the same size.

However, the shop said they tried and the 265/75/16 won't fit under there. I searched and many have fitted even with tow hitch, mine don't have a hitch.

Do I need to air it down to make it fit? Or this shop is not honest that they didn't even try. Thanks.

If a 260-70-16 fits, a 265-75-16 will fit.

Just tell them to toss it in the back (or leave it out to avoid getting dirty) then install it when you get the truck home.

Unfortunately, they didn't mount the tire on the rim, now I am suspecting they indeed never tried it.

Mine fit fine until I welded a bunch of supports for my bumper. But it did fit with ablosutely no issues.

Hahah...wow...yeah it should fit! I use a 33x10.50 as a spare underneath (biggest tire that can fit for me).... a 265/75 should be fine.

I found out when I bought my used 4runner that it had 265/75/r16 Dakota Definity, but no spare (stupid me), so when it came to getting one that thought did cross my mind. 4runner V6 with hitch, no mods below and when I got me the Bridgestone Dueler with factory spare rim, aired to recommended PSI (not max), it fit with no problems.

I agree about tire brands' varying size measurements, some by a good 1". I also agree with shop laziness - more incentive to DIY.
