skitrekker 1984 pickup build up thread

So i just picked up two identical 1984 pickups that have been used as field trucks. I am in no hurry to finish the build so this thread will probably go on for a while. I will be saving money and spending as i need to so that the truck will look and perform the way i want.

Unfortunately my camera has a dead battery at the moment so no pictures but i hope to get some up tomorrow.

For this build the plan is to make a street legal, medium to heavy duty trail truck with an emphasis on snow and rock, as i will be using it for ski tour access. Which means the farther the truck makes it up the road the less hike i need to do.

Everything will be taken down to bare metal as the first step. Now what i want everyones opinion on is engine, now i currently do not have a snowmobile to pull with this truck, but the plan is to eventually get one. So i am considering an engine swap to a 305 or 4.3L V6 or possibly a diesel, the only desired quality is availability, of parts. but if i do that i will also need to upgrade my axles, as you know.

So do i just leave the 22r in the truck and build my suspension and finish the truck with that engine installed and swap engines when i buy a sled.

Or

Should i swap the engine now.

Well its late and this is getting a bit wordy let me know. I will get some pics up tomorrow hopefully
