engnbldr 261 cam questions

I'm thinking about putting a new cam in my truck and i am set on the engnbuilder 261. What i should do with my rocker arms and such. Will the Arms be okay with that cam or will i have to get newer, larger ones? I was also wondering if you guys had any other suggestions on maybe a different cam?

I'm also thinking about doing this but not sure on which one.
Is it fuel injected or carbed?

There are many cam w/ all sorts of different add to ONES personal driving habits.

Ask whom ever you are planning on buying it from and describe YOUR driving habits to them, chances are they can tell you which cam will be the greatest benefit to your driving style.... or greatest bang for buck in MPG's, RPM's/ hp range.

As for the rocker arms, nothing beats the Toyota OEM ones. That's probably why no one makes higher lift/beefier ones etc like you find on SBC and SBF engines. The 261 to my understanding is better for lower rpm range than the 268. I have the 268 in mine on a rebuilt engine with a 32/36 weber and a manual trans sitting on 31's and stock 4:10 gears. I don't like my low range right now probably would be better with 4:56/4:88's. The motor doesn't really pick up till about 2500-3000 RPM pulling a mountain into work. I pretty much have to wind up in 3rd gear and 3500 - 4000 RPM at 45mph to make it up. Otherwise my driving habits put me below 2500rpm driving around town. Mostly like to cruise at the lowest rpm I can. Usually 1500-2000 rpm. I am almost regreting the 268 cam. However to solve the low rpm power I can either go with 4:56-4:88's or a weber 38 carb, or try the 261 which I am leaning towards cus it's the cheapest of the options right now.

I hear ya Gnarly, I'm getting about 20-25 MPG on this rebuild, I do have a 2.25" exhaust all the way fron the header through to a turbo muffler and no cat (which can also play with my lower end torque feel as well.) Also have a downey header. Although its not a torque monster like the Thorley tri-y. Havent had a problem yet with the factory jets on my 32/36, but I do have it fueled by a stock style mechanical fuel pump and regulated through a holley regulator at 3.5psi. 1.5 psi while off-road.

I was wondering if i should get new Springs, retainers, locks, shims etc. if i go to the bigger cam. or will the stock stuff cut it.

springs and such should be fine, however while your in there I would at least replace adjuster nuts and studs for the rockers. Only get the OEM ones from the dealer, the set is not that expensive. Ask ENGNBLDR why you get only OEM adjusters. Also get some fine emery cloth and use that to clean up the rocker arm faces that ride on the cam.

Nice Post Gnarly!

If you're going for the most performance with that set up, check out ENGNBLDR's Street RV head. It would just be a bummer to put HD springs etc into a stock head, and not have O/S valves.

But if you have a tight budget, the 268,261,270,440 cam (or almost any others) will work fine with your stock head.
