Can the metal shield inside the valve cover be removed? I am cleaning parts in prep for my rebuild and the valve cover I have came off an engine that must have been driven with a blown head gasket for quite some time. I would like to be able to clean it all real good.

I would take a picture, but my camera decided to take a dump this weekend.

Anything is possible, but I have tried( when replacing the original pcv valve gromlet) and couldn't think of a way to get it off and back on in reasonable condition.
