Hey all, I'm new here. Picked up a 1998 4Runner SR5 about 6 mos. ago, after years of modifying a SAAB so I'm a bit over my head with this new rig.

Anyways, I've done research on roof baskets/racks but my 4Runner doesn't have the mounting rails needed to do a FLUSH roof basket mount; it just has a bare roof. I'm interested in mounting a BajaRack (or similar) as flush as possible. Where can I get the roof rails in the first place? And what does installing them entail?

My buddy has a 2000 explorer and I like his rack because it has adjustable rails. Think I'm going to rip one at the yard and make it fit. Then once I get that done I can fab a safari rack. I know I can get the explorer rack mounted to look factory but I'm wondering what to use as a sealant so I don't have any leaks.

 

Roof rails=local wrecking yard.

you should have those black little covers on your roof, if you take those off the stock roof rack rails will bolt up.

My truck never came with a roofrack, but I am now running a roof rack rails and crossbars.

I will be selling my roof rack rails and cross bars though
