81 Pick-up bench seat-

Was there a bench seat made for this year and model? Anyone know where to find a bench seat?

Junkyards if you can find any of these trucks in them. Pretty sure they came with a bench seat. But like 4x4yota said, you can fit other make/model seats in there if you don't mind doing some modifications.

I'm in Omaha, NE and have a blue bench that came out of an '83. I'll be at Tuttle Creek this coming Saturday and could bring it with me if you want it. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you a price.

depending on what you want , and to answer your question ..

Yes , there WAS a bench seat in the 79-83 pickups .. as now you know from reading the other posts .

those original bench seats are not very comfortable .. so if your doing a restoration , ok .. but if you want a bench for an extra seatbelt .. I would suggest the 84-88 bench .. it's much more comfortable and will fit .
you will need to drill new holes for the rear seat tracks , but just make sure you use a good grad bolt , and LARGE body washers to "spread the load"

I did this to all of my trucks over the years .. (5) so that I could take my son and nephew on trips witrh me

I had seen several 81 PU and they all were bucket type seats.

The seats in the truck are not comfortable. Yes I would like the extra seat belt. Would a bench seat require a different transmission shifter?

nope .. the 84-88 bench fits real nice .. even has the cut out for the shifter .. but you do have to drill new mount holes as mentioned .. piece of cake

That came out of a later model Toyota. The 83 bench doesn't look like that as far as I know.

Yes, correct bench seat for 81, its more like a combo bench/bucket seat, split in the middle...1980 was the last year for the true bench seat in the first gens.

seat belts

I have the bucket seats in my 83 pickup I'll soon be replacing those with a bench seat from a 79. My question is will the two existing seatbelts be compatible with the new bench seat? Thanks.
