Rooke1991's 1989 Pickup Build-Up Thread

First of all, Im not going to make this all crazy and offroad, maybe im not supposed to be in this forum but whatever. My build-up is making this truck run and drive good and whatnot. I'm starting this thread for some input and opinions on what are good for the truck's needs.

So its a 1989 pickup,22re. Automatic Reg. Cab, Ext. box. Bought it for 640$.

What it needs:
-Exhaust from the cat. converter to the tailpipe.
-Windshield
-Dash lights dont work
-Lisence plate light doesnt work
-I want to take a dent out of the rear bumper, its from an s10, steel bumber, il going to hammer out the dent and re-paint it.
-Grille is cracked(glue?)
-no radio

Theres some more, but i cant think of it right now.
Maybe in the future once i got all the current problems banged out ill start doing some heavier mods.

Bumper dent ahah

ed muffler

cracked windshield

YAY!
first before i could do anythign i needed to work on my workshop. got a tool cabinet and alot of tools, birthday was yesterday so i got some more.

Also with my birthday i got a pioneer deck. I started taking apart my dash and got it all apart to install the new deck, but it has no mounting brackets so i need to get those.

bumper is off, cleaned up, jsut waiting for time to go paint it. ill jsut leave it on for awhile till i get a safety check, then take it off cause it looks better without it. haha.

I have a few questions:

Do i need my airbox/all that piping near the rad? can i jsut take it out? replace it with a K&N filter?

also...
is it hard to take the valve covers off? i want to sand blast and paint them to make the engine bay look a tad better.

Any tips are appreciated. theres so many threads regarding airbox's i couldnt fidn if i actually NEED it there.

It looks good, a new grille, a bit of body work and some paint would spruce her up nicely. Have you had a chance to take out the plastic bedliner and inspect underneath?

I wouldn't get too bothered that it's an auto. I don't have any experience with an auto in any 4wd toyotas but the auto's in the 2wds have proven themselves to me. The auto that was in my old 89 never gave me any trouble and it wasn't the reason i parked it at 216k.

No problem man! Sorry I worded that slightly wrong haha, it's a diagram for which wire is positive and ground etc.. pretty basic until the speakers. Sweet about the Pioneer and exhaust! I just finished my exhaust today.. Glasspack and 2 1/4 cost me about 70 for all the pipe and everything.
