My grandfather recently gave me his '85 2wd xtra cab pickup with the 2.4 diesel in it. I got it as my project truck but i am having some trouble finding a alternator for it. Since it is a diesel it appareantly has a vacuum on it and NOBODY has it. Also can't figure out why the glow plugs don't work, and yes the glowplugs themselves are good. If have any info on where to find an alternator or how to fix the glow plugs, e brake, or any simple things that break it would be a great help.

you could check the fuse for the charging system,check to see if the alt light comes on momentarily when first started.if the light doesn't come on it could be bad and the bulb is what starts the charging system working. if the bulb is bad you can jump 12v across the fuse it should then charge untill the motor is turned off. i think the fuse is a 7.5 amp and is in the fuse box by the batt.
