I have an 89 4runner with a v6 and automatic, that I recently purchased, My problem is that I drove it to the house awhile back and about a block from my house it just petered out, It barely moved, up to this point it ran fine. It barely made it up my drive. Since then when I start it the idle is fine but when I put it in any gear it sputters and nearly dies or will die. The truck will appear to try and move when in gear but it doesn't. If I put it into 4low it will creep around but only while I really give it a lot of throttle.
I'm clueless on an automatic tranny. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have a few problems there.

Step one: disconnect the transmission computer (it's located in front of the shifter under the trim), and shift the tranny manually. L will put it into 1st gear, 2 will put it into 3rd gear, and D will put it into O/D. See if that works properly.
