Broke a Ball Joint! (Pics of new BJ install will come)

Well I was having a little too much fun the other day... was launching up a little hill and coming back down and hit a pothole coming down and BAM.. noticed my front tire coming out from under me "uh oh.."

that's not good! It was a lot worse.. tire was jammed into the front bumper and the CV axle was ripped out tearing the boot. jacked it up and kind of jimmy rigged the lower A arm into place.. somewhat. Great.

Well this would be a crappy break in the trail...

oh well hehehe! talk about a.. lucky break LOL

it started POURING rain right about that time..

well got it into the shop very carefully..

well I ain't never seen that before!

tear down time

CV was torn out

what was left of the Ball Joint

Oh, my handy dandy C clip eliminator!

(the white washer)

machined out some washers that eliminate those annoying c clamps on the CVs.

might as well pull everything apart

'

for anyone who is new.. here is the order of the parts that go on the spindle, and the socket you need to get them off! dont forget that the washer with the tabs should have one of the tabs folded over to lock the outer nut on

this is a handy trick for working with IFS.. along with relaxing the Torsion bars..

another handy trick.. the mini sledge will get off almost anything if you dont have the right size picklefork.. just make sure you leave the NUT on the threads before you whack

RIP

Almost all off..

CV boot torn.. there's a C clip you have to pull off and the 3 bearings slip off to get the boot off and on

WELL, I'll finish up tomorrow.. I got hungry and the BJ spacers didn't show up yet

Ill be putting in new BJ's and BJ spacers both sides..

I am a little concerned that this might be me soon. I run logging roads like they are going out of style!!!

When you broke were driving straight, or was it more of a side impact break??

i will stay tuned. i want to do the BJ spacers as well.
