I just got an 85 4runner. I have always had Toyotas but have never really had problems with clutches. Sometimes, when letting out the clutch into 1st gear there is a deep "thunk" noise then it goes in fine. Apparently it has a Centerforce racing clutch, but I cant imagine that being normal. Does it need adjustment or...?

So where does the "thunk" come from specifically?

 

It sounds like its coming from the clutch area, but I haven't done much searching. It's like sometimes it has trouble getting into gear, but the transmission seems great. It only has 92,000 original miles.

 

That would be the place to start.
