I have a 97 4runner with about 133k on it. I noticed while changing the oil there is a small amount of oil residue around the transfer case. I've noticed this before but never worried too much since I never noticed any oil spots on the ground. What could this be from, it's a 5spd manual by the way.

I'm going to assume that you ran it in 4WD on dry pavement and blew a seal.

 

as long as it has fluid in it i wouldn't worry
