Can I use the W56/Tcase from a '93 in my '90

I finally got a line on what I think is a good local W56 to swap into my truck. It's from a 93 and my truck is a 90. Will this work?

Depends on if yours is a forward or a top shift and what the one you are looking at is? Don't know what that means? Search.

Cmon brian, you should know they stopped making top shift cases in 1988.

The short answer, is yes a 1990 W56 case will fit a 93 W56 trans, and vise versa.

marlin used to have ALL this info on his website, but looks like they are revamping the website, as the old links are all dead

I didn't think that part mattered because I'm just gonna swap the old trans/tcase with the new trans/tcase. I think they're all forward shift for these years anyway.

Shut up. I'm old and tired.

I didn't pay attention to the year part. My bad.

Technically the 1990 is a W56C (forward shift) and the 93 is a W56E (also forward shift). If i remember correctly, the only difference is in internals. Flanges, mounting, and shifters are all the exact same. Just make 100% sure they are both W56 transmissions with the gear drive cases behind them. While rare, Toyota also offered a G58 trans which had a chain driven case.
