1986 sr5 non turbo

i dont know what happened to my last post but im posting this again
like the title says i have a 1986 toyota pickup 22re
i diagnosed the check engine light and the codes where:
code 2
-afm, afm circuit, ecu
code 7
-tps signal, sensor circuit, sensor, or ecu
code 11
-switch signal, a/c switch, tps circuit, tps, or ecu
code 12
-knock control sensor, kcs circuit, kcs, or ecu

okay the problems i've been having with my truck is that when it idles it misses alot i know that the tps might need adjustment or replaced, another problem i have is that the truck wont shift into overdirve. but when the truck shifts to third gear it takes a while to do so, sometimes over the rpm of 3200, most of the time i let go of the throttle and press is slowly to force it to shift. but when it shifts in to second gear everythings all fine, the overdrive switch/light works when its turned on/off.

another problem i have is that my temp guage works sometimes, but most of the time it doesnt that goes for my rpm tach as well, its like it works when it only wants too, but everything else work on the guage cluster, oil, gas and battery and mph, they all work everytime except the two..

i also noticed that there's an alrm system hooked up to the truck but idont got the remote for it, sometimes when i enter the truck the lights flicker as if the alarm went off with no siren, i was wondering if this could be a cause of my guages not working and/or my truck from shifting in to overdrive

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
remove the alarm... and make sure all your grounds are clean and tight. You can even take sand paper and clean the surfaces to make sure the connection is better.

IMO you need a better quality ground than anything on the hot side any day.

Also, adjust your TPS.

Start with that then call us back if the symptoms persist.

so about the grounds what will that fix that i listed up there?
the grounds where clean the last time i checked..

if you read thats why i made another post because i cant find it or it got deleted...

got my overdrive working today...i noticed that the solenoid wasnt connected.....
now i need to get my tps replaced

Just some information to add even though it really has nothing to do with your issue. Most SR5 rigs do not have the turbo engine (22ret).

No worries. The SR5 is an additional trim package that offered more gauges, better interior and a host of other goodies. I believe it started in or about 1984.5 with the introduction of the 4runner and carried on from there.

In 1986 the 22ret (turbo) was available as standard equipment on all 4runners with an automatic transmission and on some pickups with a 5 speed manual. On turbo SR5 rigs there was an all digital gauge cluster although the turbo was available on base model rigs and these had only a light in the dash to indicate turbo boost.

Toyota made anything available in any trim package. I think they were a little nuts but they did do a damn good job on the vehicles.


I hope this helps a little, and it's fun information to have.

Edit: Sorry about the long post for no help.
With your shifting issue it may be as simple as draining and replacing the ATF. If it's been over heated and burned it may cause issues with shifting.
I also recommend removing the alarm if you can do it without chopping up the wiring harness. I also have an alarm in mine but it's so screwed up in there that I'd have to replace all the wires under the dash to make it right. So far I have not been that brave.

since i got the over drived fix and the alarm uninstalled
i need to find out why my tach works only certain times
mostly when its hot.
the temp guage goes on but than it goes back down...
everything else work such as the gas, mph, alt, and oil but it those two thats giving me a problem

do any of you know what the solution could be?

find the temp gauge sending unit... pull the wire off.. and while someone is watching the gage... touch the wire to ground and see if the gauge needle jumps as you ground it *key in on position* that should tell you the sending unit is bad.
