Does front prop shaft always turn?

96 4 x 4 w/ADD. I just noticed a little vibration in my front at highway speeds. Does the front propellers shaft ourn all the time? I know the front cv axles do, I have ADD. Also the 4W light doesn't come on in dash. It does engage in 4w drive though. I quit using this as my daily driver a year ago. It's a toy now. I drive it once a month. They don't like not driving more often.

Yes it turns and it sounds like the bulb has burned out on your dash.

No, the front prop shaft should not always turn in 2wd. Sounds like your ADD is not disengaging. I had the same problem with my 94. With the Transfer case in 2wd, you should be able to spin the front prop shaft by hand.

Well my bad I guess, I thought that the front tires rolling (from being pushed by the rears in 2WD) caused the front drive shaft to turn. I'll have to look at mine again sometime. Sorry if I was wrong.

No the prop shaft should not turn all the time , but the axles and haft shafts do .If the fw light does`nt come on check wires on tranfercase I had happen before. To stop it and save wear and tear on the shafts and differential change to locking hubs .

Thanks for your help. One of my ADD solenoids that disengaged my 4W drive was plugged up. It was driving me crazy. Plus my bulb is burned out. Thanks again.
