'92 Pickup w/ 3VZE - Lacks low RPM Power

Ever since I've owned my truck, the low end power is not there. When I first let the clutch out, there is no power until my RPMs climb. The same thing when I pull a hill, it seems to fall if I don't keep the RPMs wound up.

Initially, I thought it was burnt exhaust valves, and a few years back I pulled the heads and there were burnt valves. I had a set of '94 heads rebuilt, and I installed them. It seemed to run better, but it still lacks power. I know this because I've driven other 3VZE trucks and they seem to have more power.

Last week I blew a head gasket, so I am in the process of fixing it. I just got the heads off last night and the valves still look good from when I had the heads rebuilt. I'm leaning towards some sort of sensor/electrical thingy that may need replaced. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to test/replace. I figured since I have half the motor tore apart now, I can try to get that fixed while I'm in there. If not, I'll just keeping running it and keeping the RPMs up. It sure sucks the gas down thou, when I keep them at 2K all the time.

Thanks,
Mike

Might want to check this post/fix out, sounds like frozenwave is really onto something here for 3VZE's. I'm waiting for his pics, and then I am gonna look into this on mine.

Also check your timing. Mine was dead on according to the timing light but ran like crap with no power. Advanced the timing to where the truck ran right, and it's got ton's of power. Now my issue MAY be related to the issue Frozenwave is refering to. It also may be TPS related. I'm still working on the root cause.

Good Luck,
Kirk
