So when setting the timing after doing the timing chain, it says to short the timing check connector to get a accurate reading. I found the plug, put an unbent paper clip in it.. And it didn't change anything. What are the proper steps to shorting it out? I think I am doing something wrong.

 

You want to jump Te to E1 if I remember right. Make sure it's a good connection. You'll hear the RPMs drop and see the engine light flash.

 

So I pull the plug of it while the engine is running?

 

did this on my friends 85 it dropped the idle just a little u be amazed how far off it is when not jumped
