I need a stronger throttle return spring. I noticed my throttle stuck a few times over the last few months and I have found that the stock return spring is pretty worn. I have my truck apart doing the HG and would like to replace the stock spring.

Where can I get one? I've searched but haven't been able to find anything as a replacement.

Is there something I can use in addition to the stock spring? I'm looking for a way to hook something up but haven't been able to figure how I can add something.

I think it's unlikely you find a new spring by itself. You could go to a junkyard and try to get one off an engine.

 

Your problem may actually be that the bushings on the throttle pivot are worn. That's the issue I've been having.

I took my throttle spring (the extension spring, not the torsion spring) to the hardware store and found one that was the correct size and range and was stiffer. Just had to nip the ends a bit to make it fit.

Also check that your dashpot is working properly. If the boot is worn crap can get in the plunger and cause it to not come all the way down.

 

You might try lubing up your throttle cable, too.

I'm going to take the whole assembly out and clean it up a little better than I have already. I'll also probably take it to NAPA or my hardware store to see what they might have.

 

I have the exact same problem.... it gets really bad when you are trying to stop in 6" of snow and you just lock up because you have to much gas going... and scary!! I need ideas too.

 

cleaned everything really well today and it seems better... it was a lot dirtier than it looked... that backside of the motor seems to really get nasty..

 

Mines only gotten stuck when it's EXTREMELY cold out.
