I have an 86 SR5 4Runner, All Power, and purchased some cherry door panels out of an 88 for $20, all power switch controls included. Has anyone swapped these door panels with an older model? I have 2 issues: i have to cut the top strip due to the vent wings that are present in my 86, but not present in the 88. (not too bad) next, the hard part. The electrical connections for the power windows and locks as well as for the lights in the door are different. Im guessing I need to swap the whole harness, and possibly the Relay as well. Or maybe i could rewire just the switch connectors? Any info would help I cant find any info on this!

 

They should work, just swap the switches and wiring from the original door panels into the new ones.

 

I haven't dome it, but I compared the 2 styles of panel between mine, an 87 and my brothers, an 89. I beleive the 89, which I am assuming is the same as your you want to swap, had a different metal support that stuck out that the armreast secured to, so I decided to bag it. I am sure it can still be done, you can cut the wires and wire the new plug into the harness.

Yeah, its gonna be a hastle though ha i also need to take the mounts from the donor 88 that the door panels armrest mounts to, its a piece that my door does not have. Im gussing that the doors are the same minus the vent wings, so i should be able to bolt it on.
