Gas puddle on garage floor

I went out to my garage to find an extremely strong gas smell (actually could smell it in the house near the door). It turns out that while my truck is waiting for the new head, pressure has built up in the tank and gas started to leak from the line that runs to the engine compartment. I immediately opened the garage door (my gas hot water heater is out there) and took off the gas cap. A lot of pressure was released when I removed the cap. I haven't driven this truck since Thanksgiving.

How could this happen? Today was about 15 degrees warmer than any other day for the last two weeks or so. Could the change in temp do this? How is pressure being built up?? I didn't plug the lines coming from the tank until a day after removing the carb as I didn't immediately think to do this. Luckily no gas leaked that day.

Scary s#@&!

Temp chages build pressure in petrol, for sure. In Australia i got worried about my jerry can blowing up, it was building crazy pressure on the hot days.
(45 C in the car, start worry about the can blowing and spontanious combustion and so on)

Good you averted disaster though!
Scary indeed...

Same reason they need to vent garbage dumps. Gas expands. Its pretty basic really.

Crack your cap next time.

Yep - lesson learned ... bigtime. I could hardly sleep last night thinking that I almost burnt down the house.

If it's under your garage floor I'd make sure you had mineral rights.
