Well the motor finally gave way, 2 cylinders out. So I want to replace the motor. I am at the point now where I am pulling it out, AC and power steering are left, as well as the tranny and exhaust. My question now is do I need to disconnect the AC completely (hoses and all) or can this be done by just unbolting it from the block? Same question about the power steering.

I haven't yet decided on the replacement engine either. Used or re-manufactured? A place near me in Los Angeles has the complete long block rebuilt with new pistons, all machining done to the block and heads, new water pump, oil pump, knock sensor (from Toyota) and new oil pump for $1200. I have read about used engine experiences, but I am wondering what the best path would be? Any experiences from you all that may help with my decision would be greatly appreciated.

Im new here as well, my background is mostly in 80's Corollas (4AGE). It is surprising the similarities between the two, mostly just bigger! Just as fun though! Can't wait to have her running again! Thanks in advance for any info I may recieve from this forum, can't wait to get to more fun stuff with this 4Runner!

 

4age similar to the 3vze? Besides just 'bigger', you also mean 2 more cylinders and if you work really hard the v6 can make as much power as the 4? ...

So, used is basically taken from the truck and here you go, and remanufactured is taken from the truck, some things fixed and here you go, right?
what is the warrantee?

As for other things, if you can get it out of the way- a/c compressor and hoses, etc. then why disconnect them?

 

Lol, basically just the same kind of sensors, bolts, and overall design. That's what I meant.. I am aware of the extra 2 cylinders...

It has a one year warranty, which isn't bad, but not great. I'm pretty sure that's the way I'm headed due to the number of new parts that will come with it. Just curious if anyone has had experiences with either.

 

Oh...and as far as the AC, I agree, I don't want to disconnect it if I don't have to for sure. Again, just looking for any experiences people might have had. OK, I'm off to work on it. Again, if anyone has anything to share, I would much appreciate it!
