Hey All-

I have a puzzle I need some help on. I have a 1991 4Runner, V6, AT, 4x4, Automatic Hubs.

I have an intermittent, unpredictable vibration coming from the drivers front hub area. When the vibrations does occur it seems to get a little worse as I turn to the right and almost goes away when turning to the left. The vibration has occurred at all speeds from an almost stand still all the way up to 60mph. It only occurs when the outside temp is below 25 or so degrees. It immediately goes away when I engage the 4wheel drive. It does not seem to impact my steering or 4 wheel drive. All systems seem to be operating properly. It has been occurring for the last few winter seasons.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Im just going to say, for a good cause grease up your CV spindle shaft. I know that helped my noise problem

 

I am not sure that I am able to grease mine. I have looked under there before and have never found any grease zerks.

 

ah i should have been more specific. There isnt any grease fittings, you have to take off your hubs/ADD/whatever you got. Then there is a C clip for CV axle and a bolt for the cv, when removed it allows you to push the CV back out enough to get a grease needle fitting in behind it.

 

if its been 'the last few winter seasons', i would suggest you either do it yourself or have someone do it for you. r & r your front hubs/spindles/brgs, inspect, replace as required and repack ALL the brgs. check out the links for the factory service manuals (fsm) and have a trusted friend or mech help you out.
