failed emission test help/vacuum lines/egr?

Just looking for some help, I failed etest yesterday, all the readings were good except for NOx was almost twice limit. The guy working told me to check my egr valve to see if its clogged but im not sure if it even has an egr valve. It is not in the vacuum line diagram under the hood, and toyota cant find a part number for it. Its a 98 4runner with the 3.4. And also just wondering if the plugs on top of my throttle body look normal, just bought the truck this summer, im guessing there should be vacuum lines coming off it? Anybody have emissions advice?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

The plugs look familiar--I have them on mine since Day 1. Always wondered what they are for.

As to emissions, in my state(NJ), they don't sniff OBDII cars (1996+), they just hook into the ECU. Basically, no codes means a pass. Is your CEL on? I didn't think you could fail a sniffer with no CEL. Or are Canadian emissions systems different? If so, you will have to look to other Canadians on this.

Anyway, according to my '99 FSM, the V6 does not have an EGR. (The small engine does). NOx is supposed to be controlled by the catalytic converter. There is ZERO info on how to diagnose or correct a high NOx emissions in a no CEL situation. (On the front cover of the manual, it says: "FOR US AND CANADA")

So I hope you can give us a trouble code. Or is it possible somebody installed the famous URD simulator and never told you? That would be bad news in a sniffer jurisdiction.
