i was just going to ask you guys who run the original Super Swamper TSL's how you like them? i love the look of the tire and they seem realy good but what would be the best size to go with a 4" sas kit? i am not doing sas rightnow but i want to finalize what size tire to go with.

 

i run the swampers and they work alright for a bald tire. today im grinding the wear bars so ill get like 6/32 more tread

 

they work pretty good.. there down fall is that they are non directional and have no "cup".

with a 4" i would go with a size around a 35/36x12.50.

what kind of wheelin do you plan on doing?

 

I ran the 34x9.50 - measured out the same as Molly's 35" MTR's ...

If the truck drives on pavement - EVER - then I would walk on by and get something - ANYTHING - else in a radial. You truly don't realize how spoiled you are by radials until you run bias plys.

Offroad, mine were "meh" - pretty good, but not amazing and for damn sure not worth how bad they were getting to/from the trail.

 

I have a set of 31x10.5s and have had fairly good luck, but like the others have been saying they are terrible on the road. For me its not a big deal because i have a set of road tires to get those duties done.

 

My 38 12.5 TSL's do great off road. On road they are realy rough. They develop a flat spot while sitting for a little while but it usually goes away once they warm up. And if try to get a tire this size ballanced the conventional way most places will laugh at u... I got a little rubbing at the pinch weld on the firewall because I didn't move my steering box forward yet. Broke out the sawzall, grinder and welder and problem solved for now.... have had them for about 5 or 6 years on various project trucks and they do last but are wearing quick now that I welded the rear and still drive it on the road... try sticking with 36's if ur doing a sas unless u get that stearing box relocated.

 

so what im hearing is that they arent that good? im not to worried about the ride on the street, my truck drives ruff anyways, i dont mind a ruff ride and loud tire. i was thinking of running about a 35" tire. at the moment i am not doing anything crazy wheeling because i dont have many friends who wheel near me but once my buddy gets his 3.0L running decent and he gets some tires im sure i will be hitting some deep mud and i like to wheel deep bush trails. i will eventually do some rock crawling but nothing insane. once i get my truck sas'd and at least a rear locker and some armore i plan on wheeling more often but rightnow im abouy 80% street and 20% mild trails as stock aint that great lol.

 

i run 32 x 9.5.. My off-road opinion doesn't hold much weight, i don't throw anything wild at them.. mud, loose surfaced hill climbs, wet fields..

on-road, they are noisy, flat spot within hours if its cold enough outside.. as poor as the road manners are, I still run them cause I'm both lazy and my wheelin outtings are usualy spontaneous..

 

hmm did you ever regret buying that tire? do they ever bother you as in you could of got a different tire? im kinda like that too, just out of the blue lets go wheeling haha

 

i bought my runner with these tires on.. I don't wish them away at all.. If it weren't for the fact my runner has no balls at all with the tires on, I'd run them all the time..

To be honest, the lumpy, loud tires don't bother me the least bit.. the fact that running them on the road wears them out doesn't bother me (all tires wear down eventually).. My gf doesn't even complain about the noise or lumps.. I just don't have the gearing to run these tires above 80km/h..

I personally havent had tsls but a couple buddies have and they seem to like them. Dont expect to get great miles out of them maybe 15-20k if you are lucky and rotate them often. IMO if you do 80% street I would go with anything except super swampers, weather it be BFG's Goodyears Nittos Coursers or whatever. If you are gona get super swampers and you play in the mud, you might as well go with boggers especially if you don't care about a rough ride or wearing them out, they pull better then anything I have seen. As far as size goes, with a 4 inch SAS I would recomend 35ish, you could go bigger just remember that the bigger you go the less pep you will have with stock gears.

 

well i have been lucky enough to run a set of mud terrains..and a set of Bias TSL's on the same rig..with no changes to the rig itself

and TSL's are just simply amazing....you can't beat them in the mud and nasty stuff..except for the LTB's..and the boggers..

the mud terrains are the X-terrains that i have now..which arent the best..but sure aint the worst..they do pretty damn good with everything i've thrown at em..and i haven't gotten stuck yet..

but TSL's are just simply amazing..they turned my rig into a mud throwin machine in about 10 mins..LOL

If 80/20% is your current configuration, I'd say go with a good mud terrain. Once it get's built up, and is more off road than on, throw on the real deal; some Boggers and then keep the MT's on a set of cheap-o steal wheels for spares


One saying we go by around here though... when you run Boggers, you either go, or you break! lol

 

haha ok well at the moment i run 80/20 because my truck is stock and i have no friends to go wheeling with but once i do sas i could see every weekend hehe maybe 60/40. its still my DD btw. im not a big mud fan and prefer to be dry but up here the main place everyone wheels is at stave lake and its just mud everywere and i could see myself doing that half the time hehe . so you guys are saying run a 35" M/T radial? what would be the price diff between radial muds and Super Swamper TSL's bias? the price is were im looking at, not ride or comfort.

 

bias TSL's are gonna be way cheaper....because they dont last as long on the road..

ya know you could run over and check out 4wheelparts on tire prices..they seem to be decently cheap

Q78's are a 35.5" tire..and i think are 12.50" wide??? but not too sure..they are $222 a piece...a BFG KM2 in a 35x12.50 is like $278

and the LTB's are $199!!!!...but they are 17" rims lol..but still a 35x12.50...i think i'll keep them in mind when i get my rims...i'll need a set of offroad tires

 

thanks camo! just went on there and the 36/12.50-15LT TSL super swamper was 220 a tire. good price if you ask me. my DC muds were 210 a tire and they were only 31" and radials lol. if i go bias i will save over 200 bucks meaning i could get a spare too . i like how thats looking rightnow

haha sas is still expensive. might be a while yet when i do i will take many pics and let you guys know how it goes . now i need a detroit and get my friends 3.0L working right so i can go wheel this piss out of my new ifs and get pulled out by him haha.
