I was looking at getting an 06 v8 limited T4R, but have since changed my mind, and am going to keep my 00 sport.

I'm looking into a 2.5" suspension lift and some bigger tires/wheels.

My thoughts were to get the toytec ultimate kit, but replace the procomp rear shocks with 5125s to make it a complete bilstein kit, or go with the sonoran 1.2 or 7.2. I'm trying to keep it mild(er), so I'm leaning towards the 7.2. I like the toytec over the sonoran at this point, because I like the coilover adjustability and the top shock mounts, but the sonoran panhard bar is nice too.. Ug, decisions....

Then for wheels, I'm looking into the TRD FJ faux beadlocks or, the AR Mojave's in teflon with hopefully a metric 33" (will that even fit?)

I know there are a million topics on this, and everyone uses different setups, but I think after all of my reading, I'm between the TTL or the SS lift kits.

What's the general thought on this?

 

If you are just going to drive it on the street then a 06 v8 limited would be great.
If you plan to drive it off road I would look into a 1st or second gen 4runner. The reason for this is they are cheap so when you drag the side down brush/trees/rocks you won't really care.
I started with a shinny 97 4runner, when I would go out the brush would limit me because I didn't want to scratch it. Later it was all scratched up and then the trees/rocks would limit me. Then I got a 90 4runner and when it gets hit I laugh instead of cry

 

 

i have the sonoran steel 1.2 kit on my 02 sport. feels like stock and gives you awesome off road abilities, (remember to get it aligined by someone who does 4x4 stuff to). Plus i liked the idea of stock parts. The TRD FJ rims work too that what i'm running i got a good deal from a guy who upgraded to the TRD trail edition blacks and got the gun metal version cheap, got to love craigslist.
if you decide on the SS1.2kit. do what i did and do the tundra brake upgrade since everything is off.

 

You could get the ultimate Toytec lift and have them swap the rear shocks w/ Bilsteins like you were saying, and then just buy the panhard bar from SS.

Faux bead locks are lame IMO - even if they are TRD. I shot my stock rims w/ flat black and I think they look sweet and it only costs about $3.49.

285s (33s) will fit and they shouldn't rub w/ the lift on, but you may need to run 1/4" wheel spacers in the front so you don't rub on the upper a-arms. You'll probably need to hammer the pinch welds in the wheel well also and cut back some of the plastic fender moulding. All very easy.

 

what are you going to do with this truck?

 

mostly street, but here and there up the rocks. trails areound here are mostly mud, and rocks.

 

youd be suprised how far it could go stock. just my .02

 

Oh, i know how far it goes stock, I just bottomed out on the frame rail on a trail locally so an extra 3"s would be nice.. I'm a toyota junkie. I had my old DX seesawing all the time.
