n00bie here... Saying hello.

Hey guys,

I just bought my first Toyota yesterday. I scored a 1990 2nd Gen 2 door 4Runner SR5. 22RE, A/T 4x4. It needs alot of love, but I'm planning of restoring her to her original glory and possibly dropping a 7M-GE or GTE under the hood. It looks like the 1UZ-FE is a bit out of my range.

Some shots as I pick her up from the previous owner.

I plan on doing some serious lurking here as I get this truck road worthy. I have perused a bit already, and it seems that there is a wealth of great knowledge to be found here.

Once she goes under the knife for the swap I'll do a full build-up thread too.

No, sadly it's not running. The previous owner steam cleaned the engine. I have been told that it has a blown headgasket and is leaking coolant into the exhaust, but a complete teardown will tell the truth.

Welcome, Dunkin.

I am in the process of making my engine look that clean without steam cleaning. I think I am about to bite the bullet and go get it done though, after seeing that piece of sexiness.

Thanks guys! I'll keep this thread updated as well as starting the build up thread when the tear down begins next weekend.

Algranger... Where in the PNW are you? I'm in Edmonds, about 20 miles north of Seattle.

Just go buy a steam cleaner... think they range from like 40 bucks to 160? it does wonders for your engine and under body

I think I will, the interior is in great shape, just filthy. So it'll be totally worth it to strip it down and hit it with a heated pressure washer.

I want to convert the front end to a 92+ with composite headlights and the newer bumper. Does anyone know of a good place to look for either new or used pieces?

Just a little update.

Got the head off and found that the head gasket was blown to hell on cylinder #4. Found some rust on the cylinder wall for #4 too.

The head is at the machinist for a resurface and new valve stem seals. A new t-chain with metal backed guides, head gasket and oil pump are going on this weekend.

I yanked the purple tint and put the rear bumper back on too.

Sorry for the crap iPhone pics.

Shes a beaut! Is that coolant pooled up in the cylinders?
