Got my 22re head machined... how smooth should it be?

So I finally found a machine shop that would resurface my head for me. I had my girlfriend pick it up for me so didn't get to look it over before i got it back. I was looking at it last night and the surface still seems to be pretty rough... Well wavy i guess i'd call it from where the machine made it's cuts. How perfectly smooth does it have to be? Do i need to call them back and make them smooth it out more or am I okay to go. Some pictures are bellow.

It should be rough

That looks good. They should be rough like that. The gaskets work better when the surface is cut.

Did they do anything?

I can't tell you if they actually did any cutting on it (does not really look like it). They may have just checked it with a calibrated flat bar and decided it did not need any machining. You would have to ask them about that.

They definitely did some cutting. It was mirror like in places and then pitted elsewhere before.. so seeing that. How clean does and perfectly smooth does my block surface need to be. I've been working on it for days trying to get all the little black specs off and some small black ridges from the old gasket...Am i just wasting my time spending that much time trying to get it perfectly clean.

IMHO- No, you are not wasting your time. I clean the head and top of the block thoroughly when installing a HG.

That head does look a little sketchy to me, but without a picture of the whole thing it is hard to tell. It looks like it was machined, but then rough handled after that. Probably not a big deal, but like I said, it is hard for me to tell from a picture.

Looks like a typical machined surface. Looks like you are good to go, it will be fine as they set it up correctly. (Level with machine head)
