Towing lights for a 91 4wd pickup

Towing lights for a 91 4wd pickup
Yoters,
I wired my pickup for towing lights this weekend, I'm wondering if I did it right. I used the red wire in the left light as my ground, as I couldn't get a good ground elsewhere. All of the lights work with the headlights off, I'm worried that when I turn them on the trailer lights won't work, am I correct? I'm not new to wiring, and just concerned that I cheated and wired the white ground to the red body wire. Thoughts? Input? Am I an idiot?
