i plan on changing Tranny and differential fluids. im not sure how much of what to use, also what is the best stuff to use. thanks

in general, i have heard that redline, bg synchroshift, and amsoil, are good performers.

I use amsoil series 2000, i like it, and my shifting greatly improved (easier to get into gear at all speeds, especially from 2nd to 1st.) and general shifting is smoother with less noise all throughout the specturm.

As for differential, i went with the amsoil series 2000 gear lube.

After switching to these fluids, i believe i am experiencing 1.5 more mpg...

Also, the truck seems to run much better when cold (not as stiff).

and unless the lube meets MT1 spec, don't use it; it will eat away at your synchros.

A lot of guys on the forum run Amsoil synthetics in their tranny, diffs, and transfer case. Look up in your owners manual to see exactly what tranny fluid your rig takes (assuming it is an automatic).

As for differentials, I just use a regular 75W-90 gear oil in the front and rear. I change my diffs every 15-20K, so I'm not too concerned with running synthetics. Anyway, your owners manual will tell you exactly what fluids you should run in your rig.

 

I used Redline fluids in my tranny,transfer case and rear diff in my Eclipse for 6 years and when I had the tranny tore down to replace 3rd gear my mechanic noted there was very minimal wear on all the gears which was surprising to him considering how much it was drag raced so I'm pretty sure Redline will be going into my truck as well soon.

 

Put what you want to in your PreRunner, however I would just put regular Dextron III in your rig (do a complete flush all 17 quarts) and then just keep draining and refilling your fluid at your regular oil changes. This keeps it good and safe, just my .2. On the diff, I am not sure what is the best we just use regular 70/90 on ours.
