I just got a 1995 Toyota 4Runner, but I'm an old school Chevy guy! I'm not used to what I'm doing, and wouldn't mind some advice. This will be my wifes' first project and we're hoping to get a successful 4-wheel build in the next 2 years. Plans include a suspension upgrade, custom interior and paint, and a engine or full drivetrain swap is possible. If anyone knows any problems we might face, please let us know!!!! Thanks!!!!

Also, where can I find aftermarket parts? I can't find anything online I should want or plan to replace.

What engine does it have? That might be a little more useful for suggestions on motor swaps. I'm guessing the 3vze since that seems to be the most common in 2nd gens.

As for the engine, it's a 3.0L V6, SV5, and that's what I know. As for the whole 3VZE, I don't know what that means. LOL! I'm sure I'll learn, but for now, dumb it down a bit, please. (I NEVER thought I'd say that!)

Only thing I'd say about the 3.0 is to watch out for the headgasket and be ready to be beaten off the line.
Other than that, it's a Yota.

A 3.4L 5vzfe v6 swap is pretty popular, it will bolt in with the exception of exhaust and wiring..

OR.... How bout a 1uzfe 4.0L v8

 

welcome , there is not that much out there for a 95 4runner , or atleast from what I have found. since you are a chevy guy , "I think" there is a v8 that bolts up to the 4runner. the 3.0 is a slug . if you are lucky enough you might have gotten one with 4.88 gears , watch out for the head gasket also .

So, head gasket, got it. As for the V8 Swap, what hasn't been done before. I'm not above custom fab, it's loads of fun actually. So, have you guys seen anything you wish someone would have done diff? Maybe this would be better as another topic, but it's worth asking here too. What installs of a V8 are so crazy it would be completely unusual to hear someone actually tried it?

I'll agree to that! I've never heard of a hemi powered toy! I'll see what we can figure out. Any other ideas? We'll have a caera for pics soon, so y'all will stay updated as the build comes along.

Also, just noticed the 4 wheel doesn't engage!!! It's upgrade time!!!

 

any particular reason why? Mainly, what are the benefits? Just wanted to hear what your thoughts are on this build. Why you would want to see this done.

 

The lexus is a toyota. I've never been a big fan of engine swaps where the engine going in isn't from the same company.

the lexus v8 has a 6 bolt main some people describe them as indestructible my frend has one in hi lexus and he can light the tires up instantaneously

Thanks for the note anthony1, I will be checking them out. Also, I would really like to thank mrvoodoodaddy69 for his idea. My friends and I have been batting around the idea of a 2uz-fe, but one of them brought up the idea of a 5.7. The thing is, I don't know how easy one would be to locate.... However, it's between those two engines now. If I throw a Ford 9" 12-bolt rear end in the back and a 4x4 front axle out of about a '79 Ford, the transfer case won't need to be mounted upside down for the new V8 swap. Plus, I'll have axles strong enough to support the weight. Sorry Toyota purists, but it's the best thing I can do cosmetically and still get what I want! Besides, then I'll have a 3/4ton truck!
