Brake Pad Shims

On these 2nd gen 4Runner calipers-

My pad shims have rusted away and I need to replace my shims. What have you guys used: OE or aftermarket to replace these?

Any better than others? I see the OE ones on a few parts sites for $42 or almost $80 at the dealer!!! The dealer wants $10 each x8....

I also saw on some sites that were like 2 single pieces of steel per caliper instead of the 4 thin ones, with one "vented" per side like OE.

What do you guys suggest? Are these even necessary?

Thanks,
Jason

I didn't use any when I did the brakes on my 93 years ago. Didn't seem to make any difference. The shims are mainly to stop squealing. If you don't want to buy some you can always get a piece of sheet metal and cut out your own.
