?? about ARB and Shrockworks front bumper

I just rearended some lady that thought it was better to slam on the brakes and get smashed from behind than to hit a construction cone that fell of a truck. She hit the cone anyway and found out that a 4runner cannot stop as quick as a new Malibu. And that said 4runner will do substantial damage to a new (temp. tag new) Malibu when it hits it from behind.

Anyway, my bumper got tweeked a little so it's time for a new one. I like the ARB but I don't like how it is either narrower or wider than the flares on my sport. Now, I looked at the Shrockworks and also like that bumper, actually like it a lot.

Here is my question. The wide Shrockworks that will fit my sport flares is stated to be 72" wide. I found an online 4x4 shop (not naming them because I'm not sure about site protocal) that says they have an ARB bumper that is made for limmited flares (I assume they're the same as the sport) that is 72" wide. Does ARB now make a bumper that is 72" wide? Is the shop mistaken? Or does the Shrockworks bumper that is 72" wide not line up with my flares?

I have an ARB '95-04 Tacoma bumper on my 4runner. I have the SR5 flares and the bumper sticks out past the flares by about 1/3" on each side. It's difficult to measure the bumper while it's on my truck but it looks like it's 68 or 69" across from the widest point.

I believe the ARB prado bar is 72" wide and most people with your style flares opt for that one...or so I have heard. This is probably what the shop is referring to. The bumper should have a tag on the inside with the style and serial #. Here's a picture of mine so you can decide if it's wide enough or not for your truck....

That looks good. If that's what the Prado bumper would look like on mine I would be happy.

Yeah, I think the prado would probably look pretty close to that on your truck. Hopefully someone will post a pic of one w/ the large flares. The ARBs are expensive, but totally worth it. Just think of the destruction you'll do to the next Malibu that does something stupid in front of you!

First off, plan to wait 10 weeks to 6 months for a shrockworks bumper. The regular ARB tacoma bumper will not line up with your wide fenders you're right, but it's the best looking ARB for the 4runner. The Prado will fit width wise, but it's massive and there will be a gap between the headlights and the top face of the bumper.

The ARB Tacoma bumper looks awesome on your gen 4runner. I have seen the Shrockworks bumpers and (no offense) the ARB bumpers are way better. Also, Tacoma style looks head and shoulders better than PRADO. I don't know if there are any TJM bumpers left for your generation but those are also excellent bumpers.

Sweet. Now I'm leaning towards the ARB taco. The insurance is still up in the air about whose liable. Even though the construction worker got the ticket! Anyone have a picture of a black ARB? I really like the way the painted looks so I'll probably go that route but I just want to make sure.

I really like your bumper painted to match your flares. I am pretty sure the maroon bumper is actually an ARB sahara bar that fits the 4runner (I think you are correct that it was made for the prado). It is a different model than the ARB Bull Bar you have. There is also an ARB Bull Bar made for the Prado that looks just like yours, but is slightly wider. I have read that it is 73+" which puts it slightly wider than the large flares.

Personally, on the 3rd gen 4runner, I like the Tacoma Bull Bar that you have the best.

Ha! The ad at the top of the page for this forum says, "See how the impressive Chevy Malibu stacks up against the competition". That's great.

good luck with getting anything out of SW, lots(lots) people got pissed off by them of lying about the lead time after customers paid in full.

ARB is awesome.

Are you guys saying that 1996-2003 Prado bumper (p/n: 3921130) will bolt on to 4Runner frame or does it still need modifications to make it work?

The Tacoma bumper will work great if you don't have fender flares. All you need to do is sawzall off the end caps on the frame rails ... about 1 minute each side. I ended up drilling extra holes to mount the brackets to though.

I bet that the Taco ARB would work well with my black Sport flares. Maybe I've found my bumper finally...

You'll definitely have to cut the horns off of the frame ends. On my 2000 Sport I had to modify the bumper brackets to make it fit.
