99 Runner Limited - AC recharge

Hi y'all.
I have a 1999 4R limited V6. I've been in Canada for the past three years and haven't had to run the AC that much. Just got to Phoenix!! and need AIR!!!

Anyway, my air is blowing cold on the lowest setting but it's not blowing "ice". The truck has over 175,000 and no a/c work has ever been done. I'm thinking about adding some freon to get the air cooler but need step by step instructions, including how to find the ac unit.

I'm a pretty good DIY'er (especially for a female) for stuff like this. But if I've never done it before, I need some pics to figure out what I'm looking at. I saw in a different thread about a recharge system with a gauge that is easy to use.....???

Can anyone help me out here or point me in the right direction???

thanks.

not to be discouraging (again)

but this is generally not a do it yourself kind of job.

High pressures are involved. Being female I can only picture you value life and limb more than most of us .

You could potentially save some money but the risk is substantial. I am thinking the old Freon has to come out and new Freon has to go in.

A professional that examines A/C systems all day long in Phoenix of all places will be a good resource to become friends with on a first name basis.

No offense intended. Gender not relevant here, I would say same thing to any poster.

I'd agree with Ronny, get it done at a shop and drop the $80 bucks or so. I am getting mine recharged next week since its been pretty warm here lately.

thanks godz

my attitude is you have to pick and choose where to save your money. Safety is paramount.

scuba yes I think it needs to be run regularly but it is run with defrost automatically right so that is some small usage that most folks would not think about.
