How to set aftermarket speakers from hitting grill?

Im a newbie in car audio, but i gotta question...
I just bought a pair of 4" infinity 4022i speakrs for replacing the dash speakers of my '92 toyota pickup. Only problem is when i try to install and screw in the speaker, the tweeter sticks out and hits the grill not letting me set in the speaker. Do i need a spacer? cut the grill or what? Thanks...

You could leave the "grill" off. Especially if your speakers have some cool looking cover.

well the thing is that the grill is molded into the lower dash, so it isn't removable...

Funny, I had Infinity's and now Polk's, they both have tweeters that protrude pretty far out but didn't hit.
As I remember there is a fair amount of room behind the speakers, perhaps you can make some spacers for the mounts.

Make sure the spacers only touch the metal mounting ring/tabs and do not touch the speaker surround and it will sound fine.
