marlin rock crawler shifter seats FTW!

So yesterday my Marlin Crawler shifter seats came in. I was so stoked about putting them in and what a difference did they make. Time to put the peaces in should take no more than 30 mins. Tools required are Philips Screw Driver, and that’s all. It was super simple all around, and shift is so much smoother. If anyone is having shifting issues I would say do the upgrade and if that doesn’t fix your issues troubleshoot from there. Feel free to call them up for the correct parts for your Yota.

The parts I got for my 92 v6 3.sloww was the following

Shifter Seats / [Most 1981+ top shift Toyota transmissions White]

Shifter Socket / [All other common Toyota Applications]

Marlin for the WIN!

Take your shifter boots off, push down on the locking retainer that the shifter is held in w/(it's spring loaded) and turn counter clock wise. It'll pop up and you can access the shifter bushing and shifter seat. Then reverse all that and it's back together. It's not rocket science.

I think we went through something like this before. When I did mine there wasn't any sort of retaining thing you had to turn. 4 bolts held the shifter on/into the tranny.

No, I guess I could do a write up on it. But it's super simple.

TOOLS
1.) Philips Screw Driver
2.) WD40 For rubber shift boots

HOW TO
1.) Remove Shift knobs
2.) Remove shifter boot by remove all screws
3.) Once you’ve removed the Upper shift boot there will be two rubber dust boots underneath remove them
4.) Then there is a round locking cup that holds the shifter, its spring loaded. You’ll push down and turn counter clock wise.
5.) Once you remove the locking cup press down on the stick and pull up. Should come right out.
6.) If the old bushing still exist remove, and replace with the new bushing cup. And replace the little cap on the shifter end and reassemble.

that’s a direct link on how the shift seat goes into the upper transmission cup.

no no, you don't remove the shifter base from the transmission. You remove the shifter from the shifter base. Make sense now? There is a retainer plate that is at the bottom of the shifter and there's a spring between it and the shifter ball(where the shifter bushing is).
See, look here.

This guy took his shifter base off, which is totally unnecessary. But you should get the idea.

Maybe I have a different tranny than that.

Pull these screws (there are 6).

Pull the shift knobs and remove the boot and retaining plate and then these 4 bolts.

The white ring in the top of the tranny is the shifter seat. The white other thing is something else and I can't remember the name of it but I ordered it at the same time and installed it.

It took me longer to upload and edit the photos than it did to install the parts.

I've run those bushings in a few of my transmissions now (R154, and W58), and they made a massive difference.

Last time I ordered some, I ordered like 12 sets, and sold them locally

the last few days i had issue shifting, one of my issues was the clutch pedal clevis pin hole got out of round. i had the muffler guy weld it shut and re-drilled the hole. then i decided to do the bushing change out. what a difference it made.

i documented what i did with the clutch if anyone else is experiencing any issues as i did.

What the hell is that with 4 bolts on the top? Looks nothing like my r150f's?!?
yeah, the seat (and end) work well, got a URD SS, and my shifting is tight.
