There was a thread about a truck someone bought that was set up for baja. You'll want a Total Chaos long travel up front and some serious long travel shocks in the back.
That's the basics for withstanding jumps, but you'll want a full roll cage in the truck and probably some tubes going out to the end of the bed to help stiffen up the frame also. Baja's pretty damn expensive and its not like rock crawling where you can build up piece by piece over time. Its pretty much all or nothing.

oooh ok, I thought you meant competition.
You're probably still looking to do some jumps though, and the long travel is still required for that. And its better to be safe than crushed in a rollover so I'd invest in a rollcage too...lol
Competition is definitely more expensive than just recreational baja fun, but its still pretty much all or nothing.
Its like when you want bigger tires you have to regear and lift along with it. Everything goes together or you break something.

cheap way is to get bj spacers and relax a set of stiffer t bars for a softer ride and increase travel but keeping the spring rate stiffer to deal with the speed. get a set of soft rear shocks, live Doestch tech mv 12's, so that the back end stays planted. then get a shock like a bilstein or the liking the front that is a bit stiffer so that it tracks well. I have similar setup on the rear my 4runner and it does really well, no bounce in the rear. different because of leaf springs but same basic idea.
if you go all out, Total chaos would be the way to go IMO. THat is the direction that i want to go.

Total Chaos fo sho .... unless u have really deep pockets then id find a wicked fab shop and have them build something from scratch... as the saying goes, custom doesnt bolt on. id deff. look at re-inforcing the frame, maybe cut out and replace some of the original x-members and replace with some thick tube... i dont know if you have ever had a chance to go out in a rig built for pre-runnin but if you can go out with someone before you build, it may change your mind on how you want it to end up.. no point in spending alot of money just to cut it apart and re-do it. Baja is an addiction and over time your going to want to go bigger and faster lol i had to get back into a wheeler because i knew i couldnt afford to build a prerunner at this point in my life.
