Smile Tires for stock 2002 4runner

Can a 2002 with stock suspension use the BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KM tires without any mods? If not, what mods would have to be made to get it to work so it doesn't rub? Does it require lifts, and if it does what is recommended?

thanks for the help.

Yes, in the stock tire size. the 2002 were the lowest 4runners, so the 265 75's that fit the other runners might rub, but would be fine on road.

If you lift it, you can fit 285 75's after trimming.

thanks

So you are saying it would rub. right? I want to use them when I go 4wheeling in Colorado, not for day to day driving. Can I trim something to keep it from rubbing, or would I have to do the lifts? If I do lifts, could I do the coil lifts that would give me almost 2 inches in lift?

thanks again.

specify the tire size you are considering.

LT265/75/16s should fit fine-you may have to remove the front mudflaps.

I have a stock 2002 and I put on Nitto Terra Graplers 265 75 16, I believe it comes stock with 70 16's. It rubs a little with 4 people in it but if your by yourself it should be fine. I believe those are the biggest tires that it will take without getting a lift.

thanks

I appreciate all the information. I will be doing 4wheel drive trails in Colorado, like Imogene, Engineer, Cinamon, and Corkscrew. I will usually have 4 people in the vehicle. If I have to cut the mudflaps off, no problem. still kind of signs like maybe I can do it.

really appreciate all the help.

I would really recommend a lift. You can look at the sonoran steel one, or just do an OME one. Then you can run 33's, with trimming. There are many lift options, much fun to research.

Well most likely it has the big brack package like most runners do.

So 15's are gonna be a no no

265/75/16's and hammer if you rub.

If you're going to do some off road driving, it would make some sense to do a lift and run 285/75 16's. As was said before, Steve at Sonoran Steel or Toytec are a good places to start for complete kits. You can piece a kit together like I did for less though. I'm running OME 882 coils up front for 3" of lift and Land Cruiser coils in the rear for 3.75" of lift. With the lift, your vehicle will be much more capable off road, especially since you're planning to carry up to 4 people.

2002 models are the lowest riding of all 3rd gen 4Runners. If you don't want to lift it, I'd suggest keeping the 265/70 16 size. There are some pretty capable tires made in that size, although most will be all terrain versus mud terrain. Check out Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct for some options in your stock size.

My 02 (stock) rubbed on occasion with 265/75. I put on the OME kit and have no issues with rubbing.

Which one do you recommend? what is the cost? I think one that gives me a couple of inches would be enough.

thanks for the help

I can get the BFG mt km2 in the 255/85/r16. Does your's rub? The tire seems to be a little more narrow, but shows to be 1.25 inches greater in overall diameter than the 265/75R16.

Does that sound right?

I have been 4wheeling those roads since I bought this vehicle in 2002 using the BFG T/A KO all terrain tires and have had no problems. I was just wanting a little more agressive tire, BFG MT KM2, but they don't come in the 265 70/r16.

thanks
