I am looking to buy a used 4runner. Never having one, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to look for, or look out for in one. Things like common problems, where to look for rust, good years, bad years etc.

I'm interested in late 90's to early 2000's, and definitely under $10k, probably more like $5-7k.

Depending on where you are located.. If your area salts the roads you might want to check for rust, basically give it a good look over. Above the gas tank, frame rails, etc....

Im not sure about any common problems with the newer 4runners. I think in 99' time frame there was some screwy problems with the fuel level gauge, but im not sure you might want to search before you take my word on it.

I would always check for maintenance receipts, any accidents etc..
