What does this wire do?

So I've been having trouble with my truck... circuit that runs the fuel pump kept blowing, disconnected the wire below and it stopped. Anyone know what it is? This is the passenger side kick panel, wire goes up somewhere...

Looks like the wire to that button right above, does your dome light still come on when you open that side door?

Why not just follow the wire back to where it goes.. an easy way to tell

I don't have a stock dome light and neither courtesy switch has ever done anything as long as I've had the truck. It goes up into the metal area so I can't trace it. It looks like it goes to the door switch, but I was confused why a wire that is on the same circuit as my fuel pump would run to such a switch...
